不久前,宁波诺丁汉大学计算机科学系的大四学生曾马文泰和陈礼科分别收到了腾讯和顶级手游开发公司成都尼毕鲁科技股份有限公司(tap4fun)的入职通知。

两人是同住一个寝室的室友,陈礼科喜欢钻研游戏开发,曾马文泰喜欢研究游戏中的设计和体验。因为怀抱着对游戏的爱和热情,两人都选择投身游戏产业。陈礼科将成为一名游戏开发者,而曾马文泰将成为腾讯的一名游戏策划。
“希望有朝一日能联手做出一款让大家喜欢的游戏”,陈礼科说。
曾马文泰:从玩家到游戏策划的角色转换陈礼科来自海南,曾马文泰来自新疆,缘分使然成为室友。最初,两人因为喜欢玩游戏经常组队,成了游戏中的“队友”。同是计算机科学专业,在专业学习中,两人又成为了好学友,萌生了对游戏产品开发的热情,最终“志同道合”决定从事游戏行业。

“不再是纯碎的玩家角度,而是会去思考分析玩家的体验”,曾马文泰说,游戏是体验为王的产品,好的体验意味着要有好的叙事、流程、场景等等。作为一名游戏策划师,需要在游戏广度上达到一定水平,并从大量的游戏中分析和总结。比如,正式入职前腾讯就给他列了一个清单,要求他体验清单里的游戏,并阐述对特定类型游戏的理解。
能够获得业界大牛腾讯的青睐,曾马文泰说和第一次失败的经历有关:大三暑假时,他申请了腾讯的实习生,可是止步于一面。他转而进入游族网络的产品战略部,实习期内他得以了解游戏产业的各个岗位,并尝试游戏策划的工作内容,从而发掘了自己对游戏策划的巨大热情。
有了第一次的经验,第二次申请腾讯曾马文泰有备而去。 “总共是四轮面试。群体面试中,讨论的问题是关于一款国外火爆游戏的玩法设计。很多人当场表示只是听过这款游戏,并没有亲身体验过。我因为玩过这款游戏,在玩的过程中带着思考,观察过这款游戏中的设计,并且和实习的朋友们讨论总结过这类游戏的设计逻辑,所以在这轮面试中的表现比其他人突出不少。”

陈礼科:写代码是既擅长又热爱的事如果说游戏策划负责构建蓝图,而游戏开发则负责实现这个蓝图。陈礼科即将作为一名游戏开发者入职国内顶尖手游开发公司tap4fun。这家年轻的公司曾制作出风靡海外的《银河传奇》《战地风暴》等策略游戏。
然而之所以选择这家公司,陈礼科给出的理由却有点奇特——喜欢成都这座城市。
“最初是想到不同的地方看一看,之后在成都实习,呆得时间越长,越觉得这个城市适合我。” 有趣的是,大火的王者荣耀就诞生在成都。马化腾就公开表达过曾觉得成都的生活太安逸,后来才意识到,或许是这份安逸让团队能够开发出好的游戏。
陈礼科大三暑期在tap4fun实习,他笑称与王者荣耀团队所距不远。实习期间,他参加了公司组织的AI战舰编程。实战中,他设计的战舰所向披靡,最终击败36名参赛者中获得第一名。出色的代码编写能力让tap4fun提前“锁定”了他。实习一结束,他就拿到了tap4fun的offer。
“感谢宁诺给我的交换机会,收获非常大。尽管在交换期间成绩不算太好,但这段经历让我大开眼界,既学到了最前沿的技术,也看到了游戏制作的世界级水平。” 陈礼科说。

相互欣赏,想给更多人科普游戏行业作为理科生,两人回答问题时言简意赅,但说起对方的闪光点却滔滔不绝。陈礼科说,“我是一个挺随性的人,但曾马是一个特别有毅力的人。他下定决心要做一件事情,就一定能做好。找工作的时候,他几乎天天都在分析比较各款游戏。而且,他游戏打得比我好。” 曾马文泰曾是一名电竞爱好者,他在宁诺组队参加过CSL守望先锋全国高校联赛。个人最好成绩是全国500强。
而在曾马文泰眼中,陈礼科对代码的天分令人羡慕。并且,在写代码这件事上,他从不自满,永远在精益求进。“他会去研究不同的语言,像我们讨论过谷歌的Go语言,还有一些前沿的技术,比如英伟达的光线追踪等等。”

即将要成为一名“码农”,陈礼科表示对喜欢游戏的人来说,能够进入游戏行业真的非常开心。“玩了多年游戏,也学了多年计算机,终于变成了做游戏的人,感觉很奇妙。这是一个工业化程度很深的行业,涉及到不同专业的合作,有策划、美工、程序实现、运营等等。相信可以学到很多。\"
“游戏伴着我成长。我觉得只要不关在游戏笼里,它是非常好的一种娱乐形式和教育形式”,曾马文泰说,“在宁诺遇到了一群对游戏行业有热情的人,大家在线上或聚在一起时都会讨论行业的困境和未来,希望能保持住这份喜欢游戏的初心,创作出高质量的游戏产品。”

Much more than just a game
Marvin Zeng and Like Chen, two Year-4 students of Computer Science, recently received offers to work at Tencent and (game development company) Tap4fun respectively. They are both determined to follow their dreams and forge careers inside the gaming industry.
When speaking of his new job as a game designer, Marvin says: “It is about transforming perspectives from ‘how to play’ to ‘what would a player think of this’.”
For game designers, experience of a diverse number of games is fundamental. The group interview for Tencent was on the gameplay design of a foreign game that many people had only heard of, not played.
“My advantage was that I had not only played it but also discussed the logic of its gameplay design with my friends,” says Marvin. “I was also given a list of games to experience before I start my job at Tencent and required to present my own interpretations.”
As for Like, the reason for choosing Tap4fun was its location. “Chengdu is cosy, but I guess that’s how those fabulous and popular games can be developed,” he says. The excellent coding ability Like showed during his internship at Tap4fun won him the offer as a game developer.
For Like, his most significant experience was the exchange term he spent at McGill University in Canada, where he had a chance to work with world-class gaming technology.
As classmates and roommates, Zeng and Like shared their passion for games and game development. These shared interests led them to establish a solid friendship.
“Marvin is a much better game player than me,” says Like – his best performance was Top 500 in China; and his resolution – as long as he is determined to do it, he can do it well,” says Like. For Marvin, Like’s talent for coding is enviable and his unremitting pursuit of it admirable.
“The gaming industry is actually very inter-disciplinary. It involves programming, art design, operations and so much more,” says Like. “And as long as you’re not locked in, gaming is great entertainment and indeed, education,” adds Marvin.
